What to expect and what to do when you have a tooth extracted

To have your tooth extracted is an event and hard decision for one to make. There are times however, when there is no other choice. We at Mead Square Smiles want to make this as pleasant an experience for you as possible. Here are a couple of recommendations to help make the experience go smoothly:

If you are taking any medication on a daily basis (high-blood pressure medication, medication for diabetes etc.) and your physician told you to take them in the morning, you must take your medication as prescribed by your physician. Even if you are taking blood thinners, do not discontinue it without talking to your dentist or physician. There are very few reports of severe bleeding after tooth extraction while being on blood thinner (Warfarin, COUMADIN®), but there are reports of life threatening events when such medication is discontinued without a doctor's order. If you have any questions please call and talk to one of us.

If you are really anxious about having your tooth removed, ask us about sedation or intravenous sedation.
